Question Answer
Name 3 uses of static electricity It can be used for defibrillators, reducing smoke particles in Chimney's and spraying
How do defibrillators work? Two paddles are charged and are put in good electrical contact with the patients chest The defibrillator discharges into the patient Charge is then passed through the patient to make the heart contract
How do electrostatic dust precipitators work and what do they do? They remove smoke particles from chimneys and they work through the fact that metal plates and grids are installed in the chimney and are connected to a high voltage. Dust passes through and is charged (it gains or loses electrons). The dust particles are attracted to earthed plates where they form larger particles. Large particles fall back down the chimney and are then collected.
How does spraying using electro stasis work? The paint gun is negative charged meaning he paint has gained electrons from the gun making it negatively charged. The car panel is made positively charged by removing electrons from it to make it attract the paint. This charging process causes the pain to form a fine spray so it is applied evenly. the result is a neutral painted car. This method means that less paint i wasted and even the back and sides of the object that would be in the shadow of the spray receive a coat of paint.
