Colour Depth Colour depth is the number of alternative colours that a pixel can use. Measured in bits , the number of bits indicates how many colours are available for each pixel. For example 1 but gives 2 colours , white and black .
Raster graphics Also known as pixelmaps or bitmap graphics , are commonly used in digital cameras and are organised as a grid of coloured squares called pixels .
Vector graphics or images Uses shapes to precisely define the parts of the image. .It is more efficient than bitmaps because it does not need to store every pixel as a bitmap does. Vector images can be changed without losing resolution.
Bitmap graphics Also known as pixelmaps or raster graphics , are commonly used in digital cameras and are organised as a grid of coloured squares called pixels .
Resolution Resolution is a measure of how many pixels are used in a given area. They tell you how dense (and therefore how detailed ) an image is .It is measured in dots per inch (dpi).
Pixel An individual unit (often called a dot) that makes up an image .
Unicode A worldwide encoding system used with different languages in which each letter, digit, or symbol is given a unique numeric value that applies across different platforms and programs.
ASCII code (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) Is the most common format for text files in computers and on the Internet .
