The Earth's Early Atmosphere:	The Earth's atmosphere forms a layer of air around our planet and is vital for life on earth, without this we would have no oxygen to breathe and temperatures would be too cold for life.
Mixtures, Elements and Compounds: Gases	The air in the atmosphere consists of two elements: nitrogen and oxygen.
What is an element:	An element is made of only one type of atom.
What is a compound?	A compound is made from two or more elements that are chemically combined together. Example : Water and Carbon Dioxide.
The Atmosphere:	The Atmosphere is a mixture of elements and compounds (N^2 and CO2) It is a mixture because different substances are not chemically combined together. The atmosphere is about 100 km thick and 3/4 of the mass is within the first 11 km.
