Battle of Messines in Belgium This battle raged from June 7th to 14th, claimed over 50,000 casualties on both sides. 10,000 men were killed instantly when British Forces detonated 19 mines under German lines.
Sedd el Bahr Kale Castle, Gallipoli, Turkey The setting for one of the allies failed attempts on Turkey. A scene that saw many Irish lose their lives and Winston Churchill lose his first job.
The Masurian Lakes, Poland The scene where Russian forces failed to defeat a significantly smaller German occupation, thus prolonging the war.
The Battles of the Isonzo River, Italy Also known as the Isonzo Front, the fighting here delivered no great return for either side. But the casualties were enormous; almost 500,000 perished.
The Lochnagar Crater, France "The whole earth heaved and flashed, a tremendous and magnificent column rose up in the sky. There was an ear-splitting roar. The earth column rose higher and higher to almost 4,000 feet."
