Context

Context:  William Blake was a Romantic poet - he believed in the rights of the people, the sublimity of nature, and the power of the imagination.  Blake was against the oppressive rule of the monarchy, the church, and the industrialisation of London.  Blake's views were quite radical and he was pro the French and American revolution.    Key Quotes:   "I wonder through the chartered streets"  - Blakes starts the poem by establishing that his narrator is walking through the streets of London. (Where Blake lived for most of his life)
