Basal Metabolic rate (BMR)- Minimum number of calories needed for the body to sustain usual functions.

Age:Your metabolic rate decreases by about 2% every decade, the activity of the thyroid gland decreases.

Body Size: As you body size increases so does you BMR: for example an obese woman BMR is 25% higher than a slim woman.

Theromogenesis is based on the number of calories you burn- so a larger person thermogenesis will occur more due to there being more calories that need to be burned so their BMR is higher.

Exercise: Causes more calories to be burned increasing your BMR.
