What is a ratio?
  1. A ratio is used to compare two or more quantities. The symbol for ratio is two dots (:).
    1. For example, 12 red apples compared to 20 green apples is written as 12 : 20
      1. To put ratios in their simplest form, divide both parts of the ratio by the highest common factor. (HCF)
        1. For example: 12 : 20 (divide both parts by 4) = 3 : 5
          1. To express the ratio 3 : 5 in the ratio 1 : n, divide both sides by 3.
            1. 3 : 5 =3/3 : 5/3 = 1 : 1 - 2/3 Or 1 : 1.6666....
