Converting numbers to and from Standard Form
What is standard form?
Standard form is an accurate and simple way of writing very large and very small numbers using powers of 10
Examples:
400 = 4 x 100 = 4 x 10²
45,300 = 4.53 x 10,000 = 4.53 x 10^4
0.03 = 3 x 0.01 = 3 x 10^-2
Reversing Standard Form
2.3 x 10^6 = 2.3 x 1,000,000 = 2,300,000
Top tips!
With small numbers, the power of ten is "-(however many decimal places there are)"
WIth big numbers, the power of ten is the number of digits after the first one
With problems that involve having to change the multiplier, if you move its decimal place to the left, ADD THE POWER!!
And to the right, SUBTRACT THE POWER!!!
READ THE QUESTIONS!
The multipliers always have to be numbers between 1 and 10
