operators; and is responsible
for enforcing safety
requirements under the
Commonwealth Civil Aviation
Act 1988 and the Air
Navigation Act 1920

Australian Transport Safety Bureau
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is
Australia's national transport safety investigator.
The ATSB is the federal government body
responsible for investigating transport-related
accidents and incidents within Australia
(Australian Government 2015).
ATSB was created by the Transport
Safety Investigation Act 2003 (Cth).

Receiving and assessing reports
Independently investigating transport safety matters
Identifying factors that contribute to/affect transport safety matters
Communicating those factors to the transport industry
