RATES OF REACTION
  1. COLLISION THEORY
    1. TEMPERATURE
      1. increase in temperature makes particles move quicker and so more collisions will have
        1. increase in temperature also increases the energy of the particles so at high temperature there will be more particles colliding with enough energy to make the reaction successful
        2. CONCENTRATION/PRESSURE
          1. concentrated solution has more reactant particles in the SAME volume so collisions are more likely
            1. Increasing pressure in a gas makes the molecules more crowed so FRQUENCY of collision is increased
            2. SMALLER PARTICLES (LARGER SURFACE AREA)
              1. Larger surface gives particles to more area to work on so FREQUENCY of collisions are increased
              2. CATALYSTS
                1. increases speed of reaction without being chemically changed or being used up in a reaction
                  1. WILL NOT catalyse all reactions
                    1. Only need a small amount to catalyse large amounts of reactants
                      1. It gives particles a surface to stick on where they can bump into each other. This reduces the energy need and so increases the number of successful collisions
                    2. VERY FAST (I.E EXPLOSIONS)
                      1. FAST (I.E FUEL BURNING
                        1. MODERATE ( I.E MAGNESIUM REACTING WITH DILUTE ACID )
                          1. SLOW ( I.E ACID RAIN EFFECT ON LIMESTONE BUILDINGS)
