Multicellular organisms need to respond to stimuli externally and internally, caused by a change in it's environment.
Homeostatis
The maintenance of a constant internal environment despite external changes.
A good communication system will:
Cover the whole body
Enable cells to communicate with each other
Enable rapid communication
Enable short and long term responses
Cells communicate with each other via Cell Signalling
How receptors communicate with effectors. Can be done via:
Nervous system
Hormonal system
Negative Feedback
A process in which any change in a parameter brings about the reversal of that change so that the parameter is kept fairly constant.
Positive Feedback
A process in which any change in a parameter brings about an increase in that change
