      1. The Japanese soldiers commit suicide to kill others
        1. The man has a sense of loss because he has lost his family and reputation because he didn’t sacrifice his own life
        2. The simile “like bunting” gives positive connotations because it is associated with celebrations which contrasts the mans life.
          1. The lack of punctuation is because the pilot reveals his childhood memories which affect his ability to complete his mission
            1. “My mother never spoke” coveys she is embarrassed by his actions
              1. The Poem highlights power as its main theme. It explains the power that a culture can have.
                1. It can lead a person to sacrificing their own life
                  1. It also has the power to destroy relationships
                    1. This culture has caused the pilot to be alienated because of the power the culture holds
                  1. Nature is mentioned a lot this parallels to the prelude because that also mentions nature
                    1. The 7 regular stanzas reflects the strict routine of the military
                    2. This particular soldier returns home instead of being dead
                      1. Enjambment has been employed to convey the rapid movement of the kamikaze plane
                        1. The last line “which had been a better way to die” conveys everyone is so ashamed with what he has done they would rather him dead
                          1. The poems power of nature conveys how the kamikaze pilot was remembering his childhood memories, this made him not want to do it “fishing boats” reminded him of his past
                            1. His culture believed that you should die for your Country
                              1. His families perception of him is that he is no longer a part of their family
                                1. His family made him metaphorically invisible
                                  1. The dishonour of that his family gave him made him deprived of them
                            2. The soldier escaped the risk of his own death, this is ironic because he is metaphorically dead to his family and they have made him a prisoner again
                              1. It is ironic how positive verbs have been associated with such a negative event. “Embarked” is usually associated with holiday and boarding the plane but this time it is associated with the pilot entering his destination off death
                                1. The poems theme or motif of control symbolises the life in the army is the same as when he gets home because he is under control of other people.
                                  1. When he was in the army he wasn’t free He git home and still wasn’t free
                          2. His family and friends are not happy he returned
                            1. They wanted him to die for their country
                              1. Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori
                            2. Everyone he loved shunned him
                              1. “Home” is a positive connotation except is home is now associated with negativity
                                1. The power of culture has caused them the loss of their father “they treated him as though he had no longer existed”
                                  1. The Japanese culture is stronger than love
                                    1. As a kids you are conditioned with your culture. They have been taught to ostracise him because of the actions he has chosen. Everyone has been cultural conditioned.
                                      1. The pilot is actually living a slow death now instead of the quick one which the plane would have caused him and dying a hero.
                                        1. When the kamikaze pilot was in the plane his survival instinct kicked in. The human nature powered over his Suicide and his survival instinct was more powerful
                                    2. The 7 regular stanzas are repeated because it reflects army life and they repeat the same routine every day
                                      1. The stanzas are rigid because they don’t change
                                        1. The poem has free verses where they don’t rhyme this parallels the idea of the pilot being free at the end
                                          1. When you are a hero you get remembered for what you have done. This pilot will be remembered but not in a positive way
                                            1. The soldier isn’t patriotic and will not be remembered for how he wanted to be
                                              1. A Volta was employed because there was a dramatic change half way through the poem. “But”portrays there is more to the poem but in a different context to the first half
                                                1. The man has become invisible to his family and will be forgotten. “Journey into history” he is moving on with his life just like them but they are going without him, to his family and friends he is just history and he is on his way to be forgotten.

                                                              1. The writer employs positive associations towards “bunting” which is synonymous to celebrating and happiness but it is used in an ironic way because it is used in a negative part of the poem
                                                                1. The pilot isn’t welcome in this world by his family and country because of his actions
