What is Limestones Main formula CaCO3
How is cement made? Limestone is mixed with clay and heated strongly in a kiln. The product is then grounded up to make a fine powder.
Name the FOUR substances used to make concrete Sand Water Small stones OR Crushed rock Cement
What is meant by THERMAL DECOMPOSITION of a compound Type of reaction where a substance is broken down by heat
Name the products formed when calcium carbonate is heated strongly Calcium Oxide Carbon Dioxide
What is the word equation for the reaction of calcium oxide with water Calcium oxide + water = Calcium Hydroxide
Why does limewater go cloudy when mixed with carbon dioxide The lime and the carbon dioxide react to form calcium carbonate, meaning a solid in the particles is formed and this turns the lime water cloudy.
Why does acid rain damage limestone When acidic rainwater falls on limestone or chalk, a chemical reaction happens. New soluble substances are formed in the reaction. These are washed away and the rock is weathered.
When Limestone is heated what happens It Glows (LIME light)
