Question Answer
What is a variable? Something in an equation that can change its value (eg y or n etc)
What is a coefficient? The number (and its sign) before a variable. (eg in 4y, the coefficient is +4)
What is a constant? A number that stays the same (eg in 4y+7, 7 is the constant)
What is a term? A number or variable or a combination of the two (with their signs) in an expression (eg +4y or +7)
What is an expression? A collection of terms (doesn't have an equals sign)
What is an equation? At least two expressions, with an equals sign.
What is a substitution? When you substitute a number for a letter in the alphabet.
