What was Article 231? Article 231 said Germany were responsible for starting the war.
How much land and how many people did Germany lose? Germany lost 13% of its land and about 6 million people.
Give 3 examples of land which was lost by Germany. 1. Alcace-Lorraine to France 2. West Prussia to Poland 3. Posen the Polish corridor to Poland.
Which clause was most hated and why? Article 231 because they had to accept all the blame which was humiliating. The Germans thought it was self-defense.
What happened to the German armed forces? Germany's air force had to be disbanded, the army was limited to 100,000 men, the Navy was limited to 15,000 men, only 6 battleships, no submarines and the Rhineland would be occupied by the Allies for 15 years (German troops were not allowed in this area)
What happened to German industry and agriculture? The treaty stated that it took away from Germany 15% of its land and 10% industry.
What did the Germans call the treaty and why? They called it "the shameful diktat of Versailles" because they were humiliated and ashamed of their reduced army.
