Question Answer
most of the adjectives of a syllable we add the "-er" to form its comparative Examples: big / larger slow / slower Fast / Faster
for short adjectives ending in "-e" we simply add "-r" Example: wide / wider late / later sure / safer
short adjectives ending in vowel and consonant make a double consonant and add "-er" Example: high / Louder big / larger thin / skinnier
for short adjectives ending in "-y" change the "y" to "i" and add the ending "-er" Example: happy / happier funny / funnier heavy / heavier
for many adjectives of two or more syllables we use "more" plus the original adjective more + adjective Example: beautiful / most beautiful money / more money Joy / more Joy
some adjectives have a special comparative form Example: slowly / slow Well / better bad / worse
for affirmative sentences we use words "q" after the comparative to make the comparison Example unique: Jose is the same as Pedron plural example: that cap is prettier than yours
these examples that we compare in singular and plural serve to differentiate from the verb "to be" and the structure "as adjetive as" depending on whether we speak in singular or plural unique example: I'm not as skinny as Daniel Plural example: laughter and terror make me happy
we have seen examples with comparisons "more" and we have also made comparisons of "less" the adjective does not change lias + adjectives Example: your country is safer than mine Peter is calmer than John
in these examples the first four we compare in singular and in the second plurals to differentiate the use of the verb "to be" in both cases Example: that car is cheaper my sofa is comfortable
