Explain the types of Issues that can come with Technology? | Ethical Issues - what is considered right and wrong by society. Cultural Issues - how groups of people may be affected. Environmental Issues - how we impact the natural world. Legal Issues - what is actually right and wrong in the eyes of the law. |
Explain Stakeholders and state examples? | Stakeholders are individuals or groups of people who are affected by a specific scenario. Each group of stakeholders have different priorities that may conflict with those of others. Stakeholders may include a company's owners, employees, the producers/sellers, customers and local community. |
Explain Censorship and Surveillance? | Internet Censorship is when someone tries to control what other people can access on the Internet. Censorship is often used to protect people from sensitive content such as Age-restriction. Computer Surveillance is when someone monitors what other people are accessing on the Internet. |
Explain how New Technology can impact Social Well-being? | New Technology is advertised to promote it, which can influence and pressure people into buying the product. Some people may feel peer-pressured to get the latest device because other people have it and they are being judged for not having it. It can also decrease the amount of face-to-face social interaction people are regularly getting because our social lives are moving more online due to advancements in social media and the Internet. |
Explain Cyberbullying and Trolling? | Cyberbullying is when somebody uses social media to deliberately harm someone else. This can be through intimidation, insulting, humiliation or defaming somebody. This can cause serious distress and people have been driven to suicide because of these attacks. Trolling is when somebody tries to cause public arguments with others online. This is usually for the Trolls own amusement or to gain attention from others. |

Back Problems can be caused by sitting at a computer for too long. |
How has Technology shaped our Culture? | Selfies have become really popular because of smartphone cameras and social media. This suggest's that social media is gradually making people more attention-seeking and self-obsessed. The word 'Viral' is now a term that even companies, politicians, celebrities and charities all try to aspire towards by using images/videos in promotional campaigns in the hope they will go 'viral'. Social Media and blogging websites allow people to publish writing, art and other media. This gives people who might have been ignored by mainstream media, a place/voice that can be get them noticed. |

How has Technology impacted Natural Resources? | Electronic Devices are made up of many raw materials, plastics which come from crude oil and precious metals that occur naturally in tiny quantities. Also extracting these resources uses a lot of energy, creating pollution and depleting scarce natural resources. |
How has Computer Science impacted the Use of Energy? | Devices use electricity as power and this electricity can be produced from non-renewable resources, and through extracting and producing electricity with these resources can cause a lot of pollution that contribute to Global Warming. Additionally, some devices generate a lot of heat and require cooling, which means that air-conditioning is needed causing more energy to be used. Also, devices can waste a lot of energy due to human error when they are left on doing nothing. |
How can the Amount of Energy being wasted be reduced? | Virtual servers - software-based servers. Multiple virtual servers can run on a single physical server, so it would run at full capacity, so less energy is being wasted. Devices have a sleep/hibernation mode that causes them to use less power when being idle. Humans should also not leave any electronic devices on standby. |
How does Technology cause E-Waste? | E-Waste is produced when devices are discarded either because they are broken or people want an upgrade. Manufacturers play a huge part since they make devices with short-life spans and use marketing to convince people to replace instead of repair. E-Waste is a huge problem as most of it ends up in landfills where it can be a hazard as toxic chemicals could leak into the ground water and harm wildlife. |
Explain the Data Protection Act 1998? | The Act gives rights to data subjects. An organisation must register with the government, the data they want to collect and their uses of it. The Act gives data subjects the right to see the personal data an organisation holds about them. There can be some expectations if it could affect national security, tax assessment or a court case. A data subject may also be entitled to compensation if the organisation's use of their data has caused them any distress. |
Explain the Freedom of Information Act? | The Act allows members of the public to access information held by a public organisation about that organisations activities. The Act makes public organisations publish certain information on regular basic so the public can access it, but they can also request specific information. There are some expectations if it could affect national security or cause people harm. |
Explain the Computer Misuse Act? | The Act was introduced to stop hacking and cyber crime. It persecutes people for gaining unauthorised access to a private network or device, gaining unauthorised access to a network or device in order to commit a crime, unauthorised modification of computer material and make, supply or obtain Malware. |
Explain the Copyright, Design and Patents Act? | The Act was introduced to protect intellectual property. Copyright covers written or recorded content. The Act makes it illegal to share copyrighted files without the copyright holder's permission, use unlicensed software or plagiarise somebody else's work. Copyright holders can make money by granting permission to use the content for a fee. Patents cover ideas/concepts instead of content. |
Explain the Creative Commons Licensing? | These licenses allow you to legally share media and software online without having to ask for permission. There are different types of creative commons licenses that have different conditions, which can also be combined together. Some works are in the Public Domain and don't have any copyright attached to them, as UK Copyright expires 70 years after the creator's death. |
