Erik Satie	(1866 - 1925) - Eccentric individualist anti-romantic composer. Humor and satire in pieces such as three pieces in the form of a pear. Others works could be simple evoking a religious and mystical atmosphere. Often short, sparse pieces anticipating Post WWII composers. Well known works: The Three Gymnopedies, the symphonic drama "Socrate" and the ballet "Parade"
Les Six	A group of Six French composers who gathered around Erik Satie as their guide to create anti romantic music. opposed to serialism. Wanted lighter, more accessible style. Influenced their friend, stravinsky. Not an organized group, just called Les Six by journalists.
Darius Milhaud	One of Les Six. One of the most prolific composers of the 20th century. More pronounced dissonances and atonal than rest of Les Six. Influenced by Jazz in some works and Brazilian music in others. His reverence for his Jewish background can be found in many of his pieces.
Arthur Honegger	(1892 - 1955) - Swiss composer who combined French lyricism with German complexity and clear structure. 5 symphonies, programmatic suites: Pacific 231, Rugby) Bulk of his music comprised of dramatic music including the oratorio King David. Over 40 film scores.
Francis Poulene	(1899 - 1963) Most influenced by Satie. Combined satiric edge with Classical tonality. Sensitive lyricist, over 150 songs. Frequent Jazz influence. After 1935 he wrote many religous works including mass in G.
