Question Answer
Protagonist The main character in a story. This character is often the good guy, but not always.
Antagonist The character of force that opposes or is against the protagonist. This character does not have to be the villain, but can be.
Characterization Authors teach the reader about their characters through two main methods: direct and indirect.
Direct Characterization The author will tell you the character's trait.
Indirect Characterization The author shows you the character trait through actions, dialogue, and emotions.
Dynamic Character Change significantly throughout the story. Change in the area of beliefs and/or attitude.
Static Character Change in beliefs and attitude does not change throughout the story.
Round Character A character that has many sides and emotions. The character is well rounded with traits.
Flat Character A simple character that demonstrates few traits.
Sympathetic Character A character whose situation you understand, sympathize with, or can relate to.
Minor Character A character mentioned only briefly (less than a flat character).
