- The Data Protection Act applies to personal data stored in a database. There are eight principles.
- Must be fairly and lawfully processed.
- Obtained and processed for limited purposes.
- Adequate, relevant and not excessive.
- Accurate and kept up-to-date
- Not kept for longer than is necessary
- Processed in line with the rights of the data subject
- Must be kept secure
- Not transferred to countries outside the EU, unless there is adequate protection
