One way of Knowing is not enough toget the necessary information andunderstanding to gain knowledge.By using different ways of knowing, a deeperunderstading within an area is gained. this isbecause they provided different perspectivesand methods to understand and gainknowlegdeWays of knowing need eachother. They become stroger, more reliable and effective when linked with one another. This means that, for example, intuition alone is not aseffective in gaining knowledgeas intuiton and reasontogetherWays of knowing are what provideus with the necessary informationand understanding in order todevelop knowledge within an areaof knowledge. Ways of knowinginteract with each other to a veryhigh extent; therefore each areaof knowledge uses a network ofways of knowing in gainingknowledge.ThesisTo what extent is a way of knowing more importantthan the others to gain knowledge within an area?To what extent is the knowledgeobtained through different waysmore relevant than that obtained byone way of knowing? To what extent do ways of knowing interactwith eachother in order to build upknowledge?Central knowledge questionThe title makes me analyze and reflect the waysin which we gain knowledge within specificareas of knowledge. This is interesting as manyquestios arise: do WoK’s really interact witheachother? Is there any AoK that uses only oneWoK to gain knowledge?...The title allows me to show myunderstanding of TOK and exploreknowledge through variousperspectives and lenses. As it asksme to focus in 2 specific areas ofknowledge, it allows me to bespecific and evaluate each one ofthem thoroughlyThis title is interesting as it is asking us to link togetherimportant aspects of TOK (ways of knowing) in order to showtheir importance within an area of knowledge. I think it is veryinteresting to think about ways of knowing; their relationshipwith each other and with the different areas. This is becausewhen we understand this we can understand how is it that wegain knowledge.Reasons i'm interested in the titleReason • Intuition• Emotion• Language• MemoryWays of knwingThe arts are an area ofknowledge based oncreative skill. This suggeststhat it is a more subjectivearea of knowledge; thatknowledge for the arts isnot very specific andcannot be classified asright or wrong. This meansthat the arts use emotionand imagination as directlyinfluential ways ofknowing. However, reasonis also essential for anartwork to be effective, dueto the fact that an artistneeds to support hiscreative process. Moreover, language is used in thearts to communicate ideasand concepts. Having thissaid, the arts are an areaof knowledge that uses anetwork of different waysof knowing in order to gainknowledge.TheartsMathematics is a very rational area of knowledge. It is basedon absolute objectivity and only works if every element andcomponent is logic with each other. However, mathematicare used in many other fields such as design, medicine andsocial sciences. This means that reason is not enough inorder to get sufficient knowledge within this area. Intuition, memory and language are also extremely effective in allowingus to gain knowledge. Mathematics is also believes to be thelanguage of the universe, hence language as a WoK isdirectly related to this.for arts & mathMathematics is a very rational area ofknowledge. Thisdepends no only on the artworkcreated, but on the type of art (i.e.Music, visual arts, drama). It ispossible that one art needs moreWoK’s than the other, depending ontheir different aims. It is notnecessary to have historicalknowledge or knowledge of theartistic techniques in a piece (usingreason) to understand and connectwith it. This suggests that a networkof ways of knowing is not completelynecessary in order to gain knowledgewithin the arts.Arguing that a network of ways ofknowing is needed in mathematics canbe wrong. Sometimes, reason is enoughto get the necessary information andunderstanding to gain knowledge. If alot of logic and reasoning is applied, anindividual can connect with andunderstand mathematics. It is alsoimportant to question if humans createdmathematics or if they existed and werediscovered. This is because if theyexisted, it was by reasoning that humansdiscovered them and developed them.In mathematics, things are right orwrong; black or white; there are no grayspaces. This suggests that some WoKsdon’t apply here, such as emotion.Ways of knowing interact with each otheronly to a certain extent. -They don't allinteract with each other. -sometimes it ispossible to gain knowledge only with oneWoK. -Sometimes it it not necessary to gaina deep knowledge, hence one WoK isenoughPossible counter arguments“In gaining knowledge, each area of knowledge uses a network of ways of knowing.” Discuss this statement with reference to two areas ofknowledge_1Double click this nodeto edit the textClick and drag this buttonto create a new node
