I must (do something) : Ich muss etwas tun
I'm very hungry. I must eat something.
Ich muss etwas essen.

Für die Vergangeheit (yesterday / last week usw.) verwendet man had to... (nicht must)
I was very hungry. I had to eat something.
Ich war sehr hungrig. Ich musste etwas essen.

mustn't (=must not)
mustn't (do something) entstpricht im Deutschen "nicht dürfen" oder "nicht sollen"
I must hurry. I mustn't be late.
Ich muuss mich beeilen. Ich darf nicht zu spät kommen.
You mustn't touch the pictures.
Du sollst die Bilder nicht anfassen!

don't need to
I don't need (to do something) entspricht im Deutschen "nicht müssen"
I don't need to go yet.
Ich muss noch nicht gehen.
Man kann auch sagen don't have to
I don't have to go yet.
Vergleichen Sie don't need to und mustn't:
You don't need to go. You can stay here if you want.
Du musst nicht gehen..
You mustn't go. You must stay here.
Du darfst nicht gehen..

should / shouldn't = solltest und sollte nicht
You should do something = Du solltest etwas tun.
Tom doesn't study enough. He should study harder.
Tom lernt nicht genug. Er sollte mehr lernen.

I think Lisa should buy some new clothes.

I don't think you should work so hard.

Do you think.. should..?
Do you think I should buy this hat?
Meinst du, ich sollte diesen Hut kaufen?

Should kann man auch ought to sagen!

I have to.. (Ich muss etwas tun, ich bin verpflichtet es zu tun..)
I don't have to.. (Ich muss nicht etwas tun, ich bin nicht verpflichtet es zu tun...)
Gegenwart:
Do we have to..?
Does she have to?

I don't have to...
He doesn't have to..

Vergangenheit:
Did we have to..?
I didn't have to..
